How to identify your Ethnic Background

Coming from a humble Southern background we have never been big on family lineage, so I am really not sure of my family's origin. Im thinking I may be Irish but am not sure, what are some ways to pinpoint one's ethnicity without any historical family information?

What about based on generalities? I have a big head, pasty skin, and freckles, That would make me Irish wouldnt it? Any other ways to narrow it down?

Yeah, swab samples is a little further than I was wanting to dig. Maybe you guys can help me out by describing some of your attributes and I will guess your lineage.

Definately not African, too many freckles but that does lead to a question thats been bugging me for some time. If a white African(or South African) becomes a U.S. citizen, would his children be African-Americans?
